Why are marbles used in making buildings but not chalks though both of them are formed from the same mineral 'calcite'?

Explanation:

Both marble and chalk are created from calcium carbonate compound. But due to the physical characteristics difference of this two materials,only marble is used in building making. Chalk is very fragile and soaks water which is not good for making buildings on the other hand, marble is very hard and water repellent.
