Why are mercury drops and water drops spherical ?

The same reason water droplets do the same thing. For small droplets, surface tension is high and the pull from gravity is low.
But when it gets larger, surface area goes up by the square of radius, while volume goes up by the cube of radius. So the force flattening it goes up fastesr than the force pulling it round.
