Metallic oxides are basic in nature because they react with dilute acids to form salt and water. On the other hand, if you look at non metallic oxides, they react with water to form acidicsolutions which liberate H+ ions in solution. Therefore, non metallic oxides would be acidicin nature.

on mixing with water metallic oxides gives OH- ions just like a base. hence metallic oxides are basic in nature
while non-metallic oxides in an aqueous solution gives H+ ions. so they are considered acidic in nature.
