why are metamorphicrocks so_called?

Because they always begin as another type of rock when in slate forms,some of the clay form the original rock replaced by the mineral rock.

Metamorphic rocks have been modified by heat, pressure, and chemical processes, usually while buried deep below Earth's surface. Exposure to these extreme conditions has altered the mineralogy, texture, and chemical composition of the rocks.......hope u will lyk it...
