A meteor is usually a very small celestial object that occasionally enters the earth's atmosphere. They enter the atmosphere with high speeds. At such high speeds the the friction between the air and the meteor generates enough heat to ignite the meteor, It glows and evaporates quickly. That is why the bright steak lasts for a very short time and appears like a shooting star.
