➪ We all need energy for performing different functions like to breathe etc.. Mitochondria is the cell organelle found inside the cytoplasm of all the eukaryotic cells except mammalian RBCs. This is the site of production or releasing energy from pyruvic acid in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which is the molecule of releasing energy or the energy currency of the cell through the process of cellular respiration. Thus, it is known as the powerhouse of the cell.

Energy is produced on mitochondria by the process of cellular respiration.
