Functions of mitochondria -

✔️The primary function is the creation of ATP via cellular respiration.

✔️The mitochondria pick the nutrients of a cell and move them into energy through the form ATP.

✔️The higher energy a cell needs increases the number of mitochondria

✔️It adds to breaking-down, synthesizing, and recycling bio-chemicals required for cell functioning.

In the cell, mitochondria (mitochondrion, singular) is one of the cell organelles in most plant and animal cells. It is widely regarded as the power house of the cell. This is the region where cellular respiration takes place. When glucose is broken down in the cytosol of a cell ( a process referred to as glycolysis) to give pyruvate, the pyruvate is further transformed to actylCoA by an enzyme complex known as pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. Acetyl CoA enters into the Mitochondria for further conversion. This processes yield a lot of energy for the survival and maintenance of the cell and other cells. This is one out of many activities carried out by the mitochondria.
