Great question dear.

I think there are lots of reasons, that may vary across people. However, I think I can isolate a few major factors. (1) There is not nearly as much incentive to get married today as there was in the past. (2) Many young adults are struggling financially. (3) The divorce rates are out of control with the passing of no-fault divorce laws. (4) The choice of remaining single - or cohabitating - is more socially accepted today than ever before. (5) Big decline in religion sweeping Western society.

I’m a social scientist, and I’ve spent the past two decades researching and writing about single people. I’ve found that the rise of single living is a boon to our cities and towns and communities, our relatives and friends and neighbors. This trend has the chance to redefine the traditional meaning – and confines – of home, family and community.
