a large number of species thrive only under hospitable conditions.
such hospitable conditions are possible only towards the equator and not towards the poles where the conditions are extreme with very low temperatures.Such low temperatures at the poles are because of the curvature of the earth that allows only a little amount of the sunlight to reach the poles while most of it is concentrated at it's equator. Only primitive organisms such as bacteria can survive in such inhospitable places. While a large number of other species live towards the equator.
