The status of women in Nepal has varied throughout history. In the early 1990s, like in any other Asian country, women in Nepal were generally subordinate to men in virtually every aspect of life. Nepal, like most societies in the present world, was a rigidly patriarchal society. It still is in many ways. Women's relative status, however, varies from one community to another.

The status of women in Nepal throughout history has remained subordinate to men. In almost every aspect of life, men were dominant to women. As the society of Nepal basically constructed on the pa-triarchal model; where men were regarded as the head of the family. Men were constructed as superior to women. Moreover, they did not have equal opportunities to reach all round development. As a result, Nepalese women remained backwards in every sector.

In order to empower women in Nepal, first, they should be granted equal opportunities for their devel-opment. The government should interfere in society and should break the traditional social norms. Edu-cation for the girl child, proper working conditions for women are the other methods to create a wom-en-friendly environment.
