Newspapers are  an important source for the study of the national movement because these newspapers used to monitor the activities of Mahatma Gandhi and print news about him.

These newspapers also indicate what the common Indians thought of Gandhiji. But the news bureau should not accept the truth. They were not free from prejudice. There were people publishing these newspapers who had their own political thinking and their own point of view. These people decided what would be published and how the events would be reported. Therefore, the details of newspapers originating from London could not be matched in Indian nationalist newspapers.

In English newspapers, there was often a glimpse of the apprehension and uneasiness of the officers who were unable to control any movement. He did not understand whether to arrest Gandhiji as the result of the arrest could prove fatal for the regime. Therefore, careful analysis of these newspaper reports is mandatory.
