Because of the lack of water, desertscannot support much vegetation. ... so during the night when the sun is not shining the sand loses all its heat, making the desert night cold. Sand is the biggest reason why deserts are hot during the day and cold during thenight.

Because of the lack of water, desertscannot support much vegetation. This vegetation in photosynthesis cools the earth around it. ... The sun on a desertshines just as bright as it shines anywhere else, but sand just acts as a mirror of the sun. Deserts are cold during the night because of the sand
