The noble gases are placed in a seperate group because they are unreactive and have a completely filled outer shell. They neither take nor give electrons. So they are kept seperate in group 18.

Nobel gas are placed in separate group because of following reasons

1) They are extremely unreactive

2) They do not combine with any other elements of periodic table.
