A settlement is considered ideal which has following characteristics. Good agricultural soil or u can say fertile land. The northern Plains off course have a plain topography the river Ganga and yamuna and their tributaries provide water n presence of alluvial soil makes it a fertile land. Thus it is highly populated.

Northern plains are densely populated because..
1. Northern plains have moderate temperature. There is neither too cold nor too hot.
2. Water availability: Here water is easily available because of rivers like Ganga.
3. Soil is very fertile here which helps people in getting employment in agriculture.
4. Here people can easily be settled because of flat lands.
