Why are nucleotides added to 3' end?

The result of the reaction is the addition of the T nucleotide to the growing strand of DNA. The 3' hydroxyl of the T nucleotide is now exposed at the end of the chain. This hydroxyl can participate in a new reaction with the phosphate of the next nucleotide to be added to the chain.
