Answer:

They dominate because others have allowed (and continue to allow) them to do so.

Traditionally, they were priests in temples and also had knowledge on the ‘sacred texts’ called Vedas.

In India, the caste system continues to exist in which the Brahmins are the highest caste and the shudras are the lowest castes. Apart from this, there are untouchables called dalits.

The irony about the caste system is that those who do important and relevant jobs such as cleaning toilets, agricultural labourers, constructional workers and carpenters are classified as lower castes and those who talk about imaginary stuff like stories about Gods and utter mantras in front of idols come under the highest caste.

But why did the others allow and continue to allow this to happen? Why is a priest called to a wedding? Weddings can happen without them too. Why are priests called during house warming ceremonies? Even today, people believe in unscientific rituals and also believe that only Brahmins can perform these.

Also, there are concepts of rebirth and karma in Hinduism. A person who is born as a Brahmin is believed to have lived a sinless life in their previous birth(s) and a person who is born into a lower caste is believed to be a sinner in his/her previous birth(s). Even though this is a myth and unscientific, people still believe in it and continue to respect Brahmins.
