Tis plants are called aquatic plants.
Aquatic plants are able to absorb the carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the water around them through their leaves and perform photosynthesis just as land plants obtain carbon dioxide from the air. The water contains nutrients so that an aquatic plant can "breathe" underwater.
Plants produce food from photosynthesis, which needs carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight as its essentials to produce glucose. Aquatic plants are able to absorb the carbon dioxide that has been dissolved into the water they live in which originate from the atmosphere or from animals and bacteria via respiration.
Underwater plants also have specially designed stems to allow for the gas exchange.
