Peninsular rivers are seasonal in nature because the only get water from rain. There is no snow on peninsula. Thus the peninsular rivers are only depended on river and there is no rain all over the year. The peninsular river only flows during the monsoon season and remains dry rest of the year.
Ex : Krishna, Godavari etc.

Peninsular rivers like Godhavari, Cauvery etc., are rain fed rivers. These rivers and their tributaries originate from Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats, Vindhyas, Satpuras and other mountains to name a few and these mountains do not have glaciers in them. During monsoons, the origins of these rivers (catchment areas) situated in these mountains, receive heavy rainfall which result in these rivers getting water. Neverthless, even during off seasons, these rivers never go completely dry and a small stream is usually maintained due to the springs situated in their origins which usually a very large lake.

In contrast, the Himalayan rivers, like Ganges, Yamuna etc., have tributaries which are Himalayan rivers or non- Himalayan rivers. All these rivers receive water during monsoons and the mighty Himalayan rivers, in addition to the monsoons rains, receive water during summer season also, due to melting of snow in the glaciers situated at their origins. Hence, the Himalayan rivers always have substantial water flow throughout the year.
