Peninsular rivers are shorter than Himalayan rivers because -

Peninsular rivers are rain-fed while Himalayan rivers are snow-fed.

Himalayan rivers are perennial i.e. they never dry up. But Peninsular rivers are seasonal rivers i.e. they may or may not dry up depending upon the season.

Hence Himalayan rivers have a larger water source and can flow long distances while Peninsular rivers have a limited water source and can only flow short distances.
