why are pickles preserved by adding salt and oil

they are preserved by adding salt bcoz salts force the pickle to lose water through osmosis and prevent the growth of microbes in pickles

Salt is added to pickles for preserving it from anaerobic fermentation producing lactic acid.
Lactic acid preserves the pickles and give them their characteristic flavour.
The salt concentration is very important in this process.
