Plant cells have fewer mitochondria as compared to animal cells because

  • Plants don't move so they require less amount of energy. ...
  • Moreover plants have chloroplasts to produce energy by converting sunlight

But

  • Animals tend to move a lot so animal cells produce more energy(ATP) during respiration so they need more mitochondria. Mitochondria are also known as powerhouse of the cell.
