This is because of the presence of the cell wall. Animal cells on the other hand, have only cell membranes. The cell walls in plant cells are tough and contribute to the turgidity of the plant cells. Plant cells, unlike animal cells, can take in a lot of water without bursting making the pressure within them to be more than that in animal cells. This contributes to a general toughness of the plant cells more that in animal cells.
