Plastids are caled kitchen of the cell because they are the actual site of photosynthesis as they contain the pigment chlorophyll necessary for photosynthesis. Since photosynthesis is the process for preparing food in plants so plastids are called the kitchen of cell.

plastids are known as kitchen of cell as in green plants or plants that are capable of performing photosynthesis they are the ones who make food for the plant by the process of photosynthesis.... just like how in our homes the food is made in the kitchen,in cells the food is made inside plastids......
