Power sharing is desirable for a country like India, as being a large country characterised by utmost diversity, it is in interest of the country to share power among different groups, at different levels. This in fact has mitigated the chances of conflict in the society and has contributed in the stability.

b. Further, it is the very spirit of democracy to share power, It has contributed in strengthening democracy in the country and has taken it to the grass root level, ensuring participation of the people.

We may give the following examples of power sharing in India to ensure empowerment:

a. In India, adequate forms of power sharing arrangements have provided representation to diverse interest, groups, regions and have prevented the disintegration of society, power sharing in India has allowed for different section of groups to live peacefully and in harmony.

b. Horizontal division of power- The country has provided for separation of power between the executive , legislature and the judiciary branch. The powers of the three organs of the government are clearly defined by the constitution. Along with the system of separation of powers, the Indian constitution also ensures that no organ misuses the power and works within its jurisdiction, therefore it provides for a system of checks and balances.

c. Governments at different levels- This is the vertical power sharing arrangement where their exist two or more levels of government , where power is shared between the central and state governments. For example , federal system in our country, where powers are divided between the centre and the state. India also has a third level, where power is divided amongst the institutions of local self government. We may give example of 73rd and 74th constitutional amendment acts.

d. Power among Political parties and groups- In, India power is also shared among parties, groups who influence the decision making process. India has a multi party system which provides ample choice to the people to choose from, similarly advent of coalition governments have ensured adequate power sharing among different parties representing diverse section of society.

e.Pressure groups also influence the decision making process of the government, for example, FICCI, CII, AITUC etc.

f. India has also ensured power sharing to all the groups and has given adequate representation to diverse and weaker sections of society. One can give example of Reservation policy, language policy, principles of secularism.

g. The above examples of power sharing in India have certainly mitigated the chances of conflict in the country, it has made democracy more inclusive and representative.

h. It has been in the very spirit of democracy.

i. It has in a way contributed in peace and stability in the society.
