It’s because a Polydendate (chelated ligand) is going to be attached at two points or more and is much less likely to dissociate as time and entropy act upon the molecule. A monodentate ligand can readily dissociate

polydentate ligands form ring like structures which are called as chelates giving extra stability to the complex whereas monodentate ligand does not.
