Originally Answered: Why are proteins synthesized inside cells?

The extracellular environment of a cell is often unable to be maintained in terms of its constituents, pH, temperature and various other factors. Cells, however, are more controlled environments with specific microenvironments present within them that facilitate specific tasks such as protein folding, therefore proteins are synthesised within cells as the controlled environment within those cells most significantly aids in this process.

EDIT: Another great suggestion that I overlooked in my answer was made by commentor Steven Fowkes, stating:

“[the synthesis of proteins within cells is necessary due to] the proximity requirement to the nucleus where DNA is located. The DNA-to-RNA-to-protein process is more reliable being immediately adjacent to the nuclear membrane.”
