why are Pterdophytes known as "sporophytic plants"?​

Pteridophytes are free sporing vascular plants that have a life cycle with alternating ,free living gametophyte and sporophyte phase that are independent of maturity.

The body of sporophyte is well differentiated into roots stems and leaves.
