why are railway tracks mounted on sleepers

Becuz if there are no sleepers attached to railway tracks , the tracks will get displaced and the train will derail

wooden sleepers are set below the railway tracks so that the pressure exerted by the rails on the ground becomes less and the railway lines do not sink into the ground so that accidents can be avoided.
