Why are rbc are biconcave in shape???

Their shape - their biconcave shape gives blood cell a larger surface area – which increases the ability to absorb oxygen.

RBCs are biconcave in shape because they do not contain nucleus.They are a-nucleated.This provides the cell to attain larger surface area to accomodate maximum space for haemoglobin.
