Root nodules contain symbiotic bacteria .

These bacteria help the plants to gain nitrogen from the environment.

The symbiotic bacteria helps in the conversion of atmospheric nitrogen and makes nitrogen easily available to the plants.

Thus the plants can get the nitrogen for essential life processes.

Nitrogen is one of the main constituents of life which helps in vital life processes .

Hence if there was no root nodule in certain plants , they would not have survived.

Example of such bacteria is Rhizobium .
