Most of the cities in the world experience and controlled growth , which has made them highly congested . The satellite cities can thus supplement the expansion of the larger/main cities .

Satellite cities are smaller cities planned and developed near large/main cities . These cities are mostly independent of the large/main cities. The main aim for the development of such cities is to decongest the overpopulated and over-urbanized main city.

Examples : Noida in Uttar Pradesh and gurugram in Haryana are examples of satellite cities .
