Sedimentary rocks are formed by accumulation and hardening of sediments such as mud, sand, silt and disintegrated rocks over a period of time which are arranged in layers. Therefore we call them stratified rocks. as the deposition takes place in layers or strata, sedimentary rocks are also called stratified rocks.
