Shilwaliks are formed of unconsolidated sediments brought down by the rivers. They contain gravel and alluvium and are weak by nature. Due to heavy rainfall in hese areas they are prone to landslides.

There are three reasons for this:-
1. The Himalaya is newly formed mountains which gains it height every year near about 1inch so , the tectonic plates moves which occurs in earthquake
2. This areas are formed of unconsolidated sediments brought down by the rivers. They contain gravel and alluvial and are weakened by the nature . Heavy rainfall also causes in land slide.
3. According to latest research the Indian continent is moving towards the Asian continent and the Indian continent is going downwards to ocean which is causing frequent earthquake and land slide...
