why are Smooth muscles called as visceral muscles

Smooth muscles are also called visceral muscle because it doesn’t have cross striations. Visceral muscle contracts slower than skeletal muscle, but the contraction can be sustained over a longer period of time

As with any muscle, thesmooth, involuntarymuscles of the visceral muscle tissue (which lines the blood vessels, stomach, digestive tract, and other internal organs) are composed of bundles of specialized cells capable of contraction and relaxation to create movement.
