Why are soaps in basic nature

it is because soaps are formed by long chain of sodium salt and carboxylic acid...and carboxylic acid are weak in acids in nature but NaOH is a strong base.and thus the reaction between them gives basic nature to soaps

Another reason:they are formed also by ester and NaOH in which both are basic..

they contain sodium salts of carboxylic acids they are however made from carboxylic acids and NAOH. ... the salts thus formed by the reaction between a strong Base and weak acid are basic in nature
