Solids: Solid is a state of matter which have a definite shape. They contain tightly packed particles.

Reasons on why solids are tightly packed:

  • The particles by which the solid is made have a very strong force among them.
  • Because of this strong force of attraction, the particles are not able to move in any direction.
  • This will give us a stable and definite shape, unlike the liquids and gases which are the other states of matter.

Explanation:

A solid can hold it's shape because they have particles (ions, atoms or molecules) that are closely packed together. In a solid, particles are packed tightly together so they are unable to move about very much.
