We grow Kharif crop in North and Rabi in South because the climatic condition is different. Some crops can be grown from July to October in North and also from October to March in South. For example— Sesamum is a Kharif crop in North and Rabi crop in South.

Kharif crops are the crops cultivated in summer season which lasts from June to October depending on the area.
The Kharif crops include :
rice, maize, sorghum, bajra, ragi (cereals), soyabean, groundnut (oil seeds) , cotton etc.
Rabi crops are the crops sown in winter and harvested in the spring in South Asia
The Rabi crops include :
wheat, barley, oats (cereals), gram (pulses), mustard (oil seeds ) etc.
Therefore, we grow Kharif crops in North because the climatic conditions is cold and Rabi crops in South because the climatic conditions is little hot .
