In diabetes patients, the body cells are not able to use glucose as respiratory fuel and body is not able to store glucose as glycogen. In such persons, there is deficiency of insulin secretion from beta-cells of islets of Langerhans. Such patients are treated by injecting controlled dose of insulin hormone so that:

• Excess of glucose is converted into glycogen and stored in the liver cells.
• Body cells can use glucose as respiratory fuel.
