Its due to their body structure. They may be yellow in colour. They  are also known as total parasites because they cannot prepare their own food. They get their nutrition from the host plant. This mode of nutrition is known as parasitic .

Answer:

Some plants are not green because they do not contain a green pigment known as chlorophyll. They get their food from dead and decaying plants

Explanation:

Non-green plants do not have chloroplast and thus they do not have chlorophyll which is a pigment essential for photosynthesis to take place. Since plants get food through the process of photosynthesis, they cannot make food in absence of chlorophyll and that is why non-green plants cannot make their own food.

Non-green plants, like fungi, may be saprophytic or parasitic. They cannot make their own food due to the lack of chlorophyll but, they take food from other organisms or consume nutrition from dead and decaying organisms. That is why they grow on dead and decaying matter in damp and warm places to get sufficient nutrition.

Hope this helps! :)
