salts have crystalline nature. some salts require additional water molecule to retain its crystalline structure. these water molecules do not make the salt wet, but gives them colour and structure. the salts which contain water molecules (called water of crystallization) are called hydrated salts. eg. FeSO₄.7H₂O contains 7 molecules of water per molecule of FeSO₄.
