Why are some substances biodegradable and some non-biodegradable?

Biodegradable :-

The substance which can be disposed off naturally by the action of microorganisms like bacteria, fungi etc are called biodegradable substances. These organisms secrete enzyme which causes breakdown of biodegradable substances into simple forms.

Non - Biodegradable :-

The substance that cannot be converted into harmless simpler forms by the action of microorganisms are called non - biodegradable substances. Example - plastics, radioactive wastes, insecticides etc.
