You should know that the mechanichal waves are those waves which require a medium for propogation. Sound needs a medium (solid, liquid or gas) for their propogation and can't travel without a medium. Therefore sound wave is a mechanical wave.

THIS ANSWER IS VERIFIED✅✅✅

The sound waves are called mechanical waves because they need a material medium( like solid, liquid or gas ) for their propagation. The sound wave involve the vibrations of the particles of the medium through which they travel .
