Sperms are produced in large number to ensure the fertilisation of ovum. In the female reproductive tract as sperms swim up to meet the ovum,
"Some sperms die in uterus"
"Some sperm cannot swim in fallopian tube and later die"
Only few of them reach the ovum but only one if successful in fertilising the ovum
