Why are the countries of south asia and western europe so densely populated?
Answers
Historically the regions with the most fertile lands, good climate and a lot fresh water had high populations.
That is why in Egypt, Mesopotamia and China started the first civilisations.
That is also why France was much more populous then any other European Nation in the 18th century.
Agricultural technology helped as well. The Chinese, the Romans and the Inca had such technological developments.
In the 19th century the industrial revolution gave Western European nations a significant boost. Industrial fertilizer increased output and allowed to feed more people. Trading manufactured goods against grain and other food allowed Western countries to have a higher population than their land could support.
Low child mortality and high life expectancy gave the Western European countries a temporary boost in the 20th century. Migration might have added a bit recently.
Still climate, fertile land and rivers are the best indicator for a high population density.

Western Europe is densely populated because for many centuries now it has been home to the leading nations of the world.
The British, French and Germans were at the forefront of the world's development, with the industrial revolution and the huge empires they had amassed, they basically had global hegemony and huge wealth.
With this wealth and technological advancement, the people lived in prosperity and were able to live longer and better lives than the rest of the people of the world, which meant that their population accumulated as instead of dying the elderly were still counted in the census and population figures for longer.
Also, during this time, they were in Stage 2 of the DTM, as they had very high birth rates and lowering death rates.
This effect has grown like compound interest over time, and as the overall area of the region has not changed, this has culminated in the Western European region to become highly densely populated.
Answer:
The countries of South Asia is "densely populated" because of its prosperity while the Western European countries are densely populated because of its technological advancement.
Explanation:
The industrial revolution gave a major boost to Western European countries in the "19th century". Technologically, they have evolved. Increased fertilisers manufacturing and several technological developments further backed population in Western Europe. "South Asia" is densely populated owing to fertile land, presence of coastal areas (sea routes help in trade), favourable climate, fresh water availability and mineral presence. Availability of farm resources such as fertile soil and abundant fresh water. This enables adequate food production to sustain a big population. The presence of big rivers provides water not only for farming, but also for drinking. A means of transport is also provided by rivers. It's not a very severe climate. Neither is "summer" unbearably hot nor in "winter" intolerably cold.
