Dear friend,
As we use them to cut different objects, time over time the blades get worns out, making the blade blunt which is difficult to cut. So we have to sharpen cutting instruments over time to time as to make it as sharp as possible by making the edge thin and thin. This decreases the surface area of the edge which thus increasing the pressure helping us to cut objects easily and quickly.
Hope it helps !!!
