Your question:

Why are the diurnal and the annual ranges of temperature very low in the equatorial region?

The answer is the Sun. Just because of the Sun.

Tropical regions have a moist climate where they are fed up with rain and heat eventually. This phenomenon is responsible for the low diurnal annual temperature of the equatorial region. The Sun faces those regions directly at an angle of 90 degrees. Despite of the Sun’s maximum solar radiation in the region the large availability of water bodies act as heat resistance skin for this region.

Due to Sun, the diurnal and the annual ranges of temperature are very low in the equatorial region. The sun directly hit this region at an angle of 90degree and due to this reason, the water bodies act as a heat resistance in this region.

This is known as beam spreading and also the radiation traveled through longer distance through the atmosphere which is known as beam depletion.
