Chemical bonds are the strong attractive force that holds atoms together. It is the attraction of each atom’s nucleus for the other atom’s valence electrons. These attractions exist all the time in solids and liquids providing the shape and volume for those phases, but for the forces of attraction to be considered a chemical bond, electrons must be held captive specifically between these atoms.
