The guard cells in open stomata are different in shape and size from the guard cells in a closed stomata because the guard cells gain water and becomes turgid, swelling in size resulting in the opening of the stomata. When the guard cells lose water they become flaccid, their size decreases and the stomata closes.
In an open stomata the guard cells are turgid and swelled up in size whereas in a closed stomata they are flaccid.

Answer:
Stomata are the tiny pores present on the lower surface of leaf the exchange of gases and transpiration( loss of extra water from leaves) takes place through stomata. When water comes out of the guard cells, they shrink, become straight and the stomata of close.
