why are the handles of electric irons made of plastic or bakelite

Plastics and bakelite are bad conductors of electricity.As the electric iron is run by electricity,if their handles are made by metal,the electricity may pass through the one who holds the handle and they might get shock. Hence the handles of electrical irons are made of plastics or bakelite.
