The polyploid hepatocytes are formed during postnatal liver growth as a result of a change from normal mitoses to polyploidizing ones An hypothesis of the biological significance of liver cell polyploidy is based on the fact of a high level of spontaneous chromosome aberrations in mitotic hepatocytes.
